I am on social security/ Not because I want to be but because I have to be. I was declared legally deaf, and blind by the U.S. government when I sued to get my social security money. This is money I paid into when I was able to work. Everyone pays into their own social security fund when they work. that is why you have a social security number, besides for the census but for your "account" with social security. A lot of people on here claim that I and others are "leaching" off the system. Untrue, we have our social security for a reason,because we can no longer work (though I would rather work) or like me have a disability that pretty much saps the will to live or can't function like we used to. I studied computer technology in Job corps, that is a government funded program set up by President Johnson to train people for jobs that will be used in the future. I chose computer tech. for that very reason for the future, unfortunately those skills didn't pan out considering the computers were programmed with now obsolete languages and I was not able to get a job using my skills I had learned. so, I had to get shitty jobs in fast food, and security officer positions. I had to feed my family on these low waged jobs. and now that the repukicans are back in the senate and the House. they are not raising the minimum wage I lived on that minimum wage and these assholes are saying that families aren't living on these low level jobs. but, high school kids and college kids are. Not so. families depend on these jobs even when they are trained for better skilled labor jobs. like I was. Like our President had said in his Sate of the Union address, if they (congress) can't live on 15,000 dollars a year how can families live on less? We need that minimum wage raised, i live on less than 10,000 a year, that's 680.00 a month that only covers the house utilities. any food we get for the month is pretty much donated to us(myself, my wife and son) we have boarders that stay with us to help with any other things that come up, but no one should live like this. Raise the wage so that we can at least buy our own food, and not be a fucking charity case each and evry month. Thank you my rant is over.
